1-2-3 list to prepare for flood

As we have just learned recently, floods do happen and they can be disastrous. Here is quick check list on how to prepare for flood.

1. Get flood information on your property
check with your local city/county government for flood maps. For example, here in King county, Washington, County government created an interactive map to show flood plains. It looks like this.

2. Consider buying flood insurance
Assess your risk from flood information above and consider buying floor insurance.

3. Plan an evacuation route
Based on the flood plan maps, plan a safe route to a higher ground.

4. Prepare a emergency kit
with food, tools and other essentials for emergency. Here is a more detailed checklist from ready.gov.
